The staff at the Lymphedema Center includes physical therapists certified in complete decongestive therapy (CDT), who utilize progressive techniques to reduce lymphedema and educate patients in appropriate self-management skills. The program includes: initial evaluation by a certified therapist, an individually-designed treatment plan (using manual lymph drainage, compression bandaging and compression garments) patient education, and a home program. They also have therapists certified in pelvic floor therapy!

Wei F. Chen 

​MD, FACS

Dr. Chen is a professor of plastic surgery at Cleveland Clinic. He serves as the head of microsurgery and supermicrosurgery and co-director of Cleveland Clinic’s multidisciplinary lymphedema center.

He is internationally recognized for his expertise in lymphatic supermicrosurgery and treatment of primary and secondary lymphedema. He pioneered procedures such as “octopus” LVA, high-precision image-guided LVA, “acrobatic” free-style LVA, vascularized lymph vessel transplant, “flying squirrel” liposuction techniques, and the hybrid debulking-first lymphatic reconstruction. These procedures have been adopted worldwide as part of the mainstays of lymphatic reconstruction.

Dr. Chen shares his experience and expertise in U.S. and abroad. He has completed 162 invited lectures and keynote presentations around the world. He was invited as visiting professor to 38 domestic and foreign academic institutions to share his supermicrosurgery/lymphedema surgical techniques.

Dr. Chen was recognized by Marquis Who’s Who in 2015 as one of the most influential American reconstructive plastic surgeons. In 2020, he received the Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Ashley Ignatiuk

MSc, MD, FRCS

Dr. Ignatiuk is a Canadian trained Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and after traveling to the US for his fellowship, he realized that this was the place for him to learn and grow as a surgeon. He specializes in hand surgery, cancer reconstruction and many other chronic and traumatic injuries. Part of his fellowship included pediatric training making him versed in both trauma and congenital abnormalities in children. With his diverse training and experience he is able to perform both reconstructive and aesthetic procedures, with a special interest in breast reconstruction and most notably peripheral nerve surgery. He has recently spearheaded a targeted muscle reinnervation clinic with University Hospital, to service amputees and patients with chronic pain from nerve damage. He has partnered with the Hanger Clinic, curating a multidisciplinary team composed of physical therapists, occupation therapists, a physiatrist and a prosthetist to aid in patient recovery and achieve the very best outcomes.

With over 6 years experience in 2 highly competitive academic hospitals, Dr. Ignatiuk is at the forefront of cutting edge techniques and knowledge, allowing him to produce consistently excellent results. He is board certified in both Canada and the US and holds membership with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada as well as the American Board of Plastic Surgery. When not in the OR or teaching residents, Dr. Ignatiuk likes to spend his spare time with his family and two boxers or working on his car.
